Ross is an artist, writer, educator and entrepreneur.
An accomplished author and illustrator, his published work includes over thirty children's books. Two of Dave's books, Space Monster and Mr.Terwilligar's Secret, were on the International Association of Reading and Children's Book Council 1982 Children's Choice List.
His most popular work, A Book of Hugs, sold over half a million copies and was featured several times on the Captain Kangaroo television show. He is currently working with Harper Collins Publishers on a multi-book project. This three book collection begins with a new version of A Book of Hugs which was just released followed by A Book of Friends. A Book of Kisses is also in production, coming out in January of 2000.
Dave is a frequent lecturer on children's literature and creative writing. From Massachusetts to Hawaii, he has spoken in hundreds of educational settings from Kindergarten to Graduate School. He has conducted workshops and seminars for many groups and organizations including, Parents as Reading Partners, the New York State Reading Association, the New York State Librarians' Association and the New York State Humanities Conference.
In 1992, in recognition of his work on behalf of young people, he was awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Parent-Teacher-Student Association of New York State. This year he is scheduled to present at the fourteenth annual "Let the Reading Begin" Conference in Albany, NY, and the tenth annual Kindergarten Kaleidoscope Conference in Olney IL.
Dave and his wife, Kathleen, are founders and currently administer two organizations that serve the community. These are; Helping Hands School, a preschool for children with special needs and Shannon's Rainbow, a Daycare that offers a wide range of childcare options with an emphasis on preschool education. Both businesses operate in Clifton Park, NY. Together these preschools provide services for over 300 children and employ over 85 professionals and support staff.
