CALDECOTT
TEACHING RESOURCES
CALDECOTT
ON THE NET is a combination of award-winning children's literature
and discovery learning via the World Wide Web. Eighteen "LearningQuests"
are presented in the book, with each focusing on a different Caldecott
award winning title. Children are presented with a theme, activities, Internet
resources and extended learning opportunities. Through the use of the age-appropriate
Internet sites, participants can answer questions, learn new concepts and
employ information seeking skills. The book is designed to be used as a
paper handout or the information can be mounted on the web. Librarians,
teachers, students and parents can all benefit from the learning opportunities
presented in this volume.
A
CALDECOTT CELEBRATION: Six Artists and Their Paths to the Caldecott Medal
by Leonard S. Marcus, noted children's book historian. Marcus draws an
absorbing and informative picture of the world's most prestigious illustration
award and six of its acclaimed winners: Robert McCloskey, Marcia Brown,
Maurice Sendak, William Steig, Chris Van Allsburg and David Wiesner.
TEACHING ART WITH BOOKS KIDS LOVE by Darcie Clark Frohardt. Art Elements, Appreciation,
and Design with Award-winning Books [Primarily Caldecott Medal or Honor
Books]. Combines art and reading with bibliographies and lists of related
fine art. Organized around three of the most basic components of elementary
school visual art curriculums: Elements of Art, Principles of Design and
Artistic Styles.
